Update:Toxic Chemicals in Broakley's Public Water Supply and Water Wells?

Update: This article was originally published April 1st. Since then there has been no change to the slough. All the contamination sources are still there. 4 months have passed since the City Council was contacted.
Currently the land is owned by the Lesher Trust who leases the land to Dave Dal Porto who runs cattle on the property. Dal Porto says that the County cleaned this mess up in the past. Owen Poole, who works for KB has been in contact with the Lesher Trust to approve the rental of equipment to clean it up since KB is in the process of trying to purchase the land. Once the approval comes in the City will supply the dumpster, Dal Porto the equipment and it will then be cleaned up.
The question that is on my mind is why the City of Oakley hasn't used their authority to clean the contaminants out of the water and just bill the owners of the land? I'm pretty sure that there is a law on record which states they have this right.
Personally I have never seen any cows out there grazing. But if Dave Dal Porto does have cattle out there I would question what that cattle is being used for.
These photos were taken at the corner of East Cypress and Jersey Island Rd. This water is used for irrigation, farming, well water and live stock has access to it. It's a street width from this sign for the Contra Costa Water Districts canals. However they don't connect.
Update : I received a letter Jim Freshi from the CCWD. He is the Public Information Specialist. Per his letter he confirmed that the slough which is right next to the canals is not maintained or owned by the Contra Costa Water District. Looks like this is now a community issue or possibly we can find out who owns this property. Anyone know which land developer might own this?

In this photo if you look closely you will see Propane tanks rusting away in the water.

This is an A/C unit which would be leaking Freon into the water.

Here is an old Hot Water Heater. One health concern associated with traditional water heaters is Legionnaire's disease, a bacterial respiratory disease similar to pneumonia. Thousands of cases of Legionnaire's disease occur in the U.S. each year, and up to 15% of the cases are fatal. Most often, smokers, the elderly and those with chronic respiratory problems or compromised immune systems.

This is a Dish Washing Machine. Must be some lubricated parts in there.

Here's some items that have been here so long that they have completely rusted apart.

Here is an old TV. Don't they have mercury and heavy metal in them?
This picture shows the construction cones and signs that were left in the water after the repair of the rode.
Here is an old Computer Monitor. Computer monitors that contain cathode ray tubes or CRTs can contain more than 8 pounds of lead.

Doesn't the local wineries in Broakley use well water? What about the people who sit on the bank and fish out of there?

There is hundreds of cows up that road, are they being raised for meat or milk?

Have you sent these photos to the Contra Costa Water District? I would be interested in hearing their response.

No surpise really! It takes thoughtful journalists to report on stories such as these. Then, hopefully, something positive gets done. Thank you for the report. Know that the community is reading. Hope to see a follow-up to this story.

Well geez, that stuff's all bad - BUT FLUORIDE is also toxic, so why do they put it in the water?

Read any label on toothpaste: "If more than used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact Poison Control Center right away."

Now before all the Over educated Dr / PHD / Scientists chime in, Flouride is beneficial TOPICALLY on the teeth but why are we ingesting it in the rest of our bodies????

A huge number of homes in East County are on well water and these drainage ditches leak water into the underlying ground water. I believe Brentwood is on a well system also and there are a number of runoff ditches with water from the fields that make it's way into the Delta & underground. People, critters, & fish are all impacted by Neanderthals dumping their waste like this. Over watering agricultural land that lets water containing fertilizer and pesticides should be monitored as well. The old fashion practice of flood irrigation should be replaced with drip systems to put the water where needed instead of wasting it.

The cities lack of response and action on this issue does not surprise me. They are typically worthless when you report anything like this and act like they cannot be bothered.
